On the weekend Katrina and Leigh (and Hugo) came to stay with us to celebrate Robert Burn’s Night (a Scottish tradition- Katrina is Scottish). Basically this involves celebrating Robert Burns (A scottish poet and song lyric writer: ’Auld Lang Sine’, ’My Love is like a Red, Red, Rose’), toasting many different people (i.e. having a few drinks) and eating Haggis! I don’t think we celebrated it the traditional way but it was a lot of fun!

Ben (Chef at Rodger’s of Slyfield) cooked an excellent traditional dinner:

And of course we ate Haggis- provided by Katrina and Leigh. It looks disgusting but is really very tasty! I can’t describe it very well except that it tastes like flavoured mince with an offal aftertaste...you’ll just have to try some!

It was boiled for a couple of hours then Katrina cut it open with the traditional ’Address to a Haggis’ poem.

’His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!’

So, there you are, a traditional Scottish Burns Supper. We had a great night...hope all the Aussies enjoyed their Australia Day!

Keep your eye on the Haggis!

Wow the menu looks so professional! I am not too sure about haggis. The rituals all sound fun too.

Looks like a great fun night to me. I'm willing to try the Haggis but only if it's cooked by the celebrated chef "Ben". What the heck are neeps? - I understand tatties. See you soon. xxx
