Hello again from snowy guildford. I would like to vent some of my frustrations over the stupidity of some people in the world and all of the media in general. Today and last night much of Britain received the heaviest, most rapid snow falls in 20 years. Boo hoo, oh my god, is anyone thinking of the children. The media has gone beserk, snow, snow snow, snow, snow. But you know what’s worse is that the moaning, whinging sad sacks are all pissed because no one has prepared well for the 1:20 year storm. The London transport system and roads all pooped themselves and all the poor politicians are getting hammered in the media. Why don’t we have more gritters, snow ploughs? they all ask. For once the politicians sound sensible when they say that if we had all the equipment for the 1:20 year snow storm then there would have to be a completely different inquiry into why the government spent too much money on snow equipment. What happens this summer when it s a hot day, will everyone moan because there are not enough air conditioners, portable water dispensers and sunscreen for the topless men roaming the streets with cigarette and stella can in hand.
We both had the day off, we went for a walk, threw a few snow balls and had a good time. Our neighbors roamed the streets in grey tracksuit pants, cigarette and stella in hand and generally had a good time. Our road is virtually unpassable, do i complain? No, because today for the first time ever in the UK people were saying hi to each other and stopping to talk on the rd and footpath, because the snow all brought us together, no on even tried to stab us!
You know what it is, its the credit crunch effecting the greenhouse effect, too much gas and not enough salt and too much snow, way too much for some people to cope with!
Hello
Last night it started to snow and snowed quite heavily. Usually when you wake up the next day the snow has melted and everything is slushy. This did not occur today. I woke up this morning and could hear water dripping so i thought the melt had begun, but it had not, instead our back yard had about 50cm of snow in it and so did everything else. Our cars were snowed in and you could not really even see where the road was. It is still snowing now and the BBC says it may snow more later today. We both rang our jobs and they said it was a snow day off. My boss had to be picked up by our receptionist after walking a mile through the snow to get to her 4WD.
It is all beautiful and fantastic and an exciting treat before we come back to Australia.

It is Summer in Australia and we will be there very soon, but right now we are not and it is snowing in Guildford. We have finally taken a photo of our car, it is a peugeot 306 XSI, very fast and quite nice considering its price.
On the weekend Katrina and Leigh (and Hugo) came to stay with us to celebrate Robert Burn’s Night (a Scottish tradition- Katrina is Scottish). Basically this involves celebrating Robert Burns (A scottish poet and song lyric writer: ’Auld Lang Sine’, ’My Love is like a Red, Red, Rose’), toasting many different people (i.e. having a few drinks) and eating Haggis! I don’t think we celebrated it the traditional way but it was a lot of fun!
Ben (Chef at Rodger’s of Slyfield) cooked an excellent traditional dinner:
And of course we ate Haggis- provided by Katrina and Leigh. It looks disgusting but is really very tasty! I can’t describe it very well except that it tastes like flavoured mince with an offal aftertaste...you’ll just have to try some!
It was boiled for a couple of hours then Katrina cut it open with the traditional ’Address to a Haggis’ poem.
’His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!’
So, there you are, a traditional Scottish Burns Supper. We had a great night...hope all the Aussies enjoyed their Australia Day!
Keep your eye on the Haggis!
